Guest Post: A Special Road Trip – Riding out to the National Motorcycle Museum

For those that have a great love for motorcycles and riding, taking the time to go out to special places is one of the real thrills in owning a bike. While you can go out and explore remote parts of the country or famous tourist sites like the Grand Canyon or Mount Rushmore, there is one place that you may never have gone to that can be ideal for your next road trip. If you are a real motorcycle aficionado, then you want to make sure that you take the time to plan a trip to the National Motorcycle Museum.

About the Museum

The National Motorcycle Museum in the United States is located in Anamosa, Iowa. Founded in 1989, the museum is a non-profit organization that was created by people that love motorcycles and their history. The museum is filled with all kinds of history and exhibits dating back to the 1800s to show just how the motorcycle was planned and developed. There are many classic and vintage motorcycles on display for you to see, along with apparel, photographs, advertising art and all other kinds of memorabilia related to motorcycles. The museum has grown tremendously over the years thanks to the generous support of donations and members so that the collection of vintage bikes has grown from forty to over 400 in the last twenty-five years. The museum has expanded and grown to a larger structure twice the size of its original space to allow for larger groups and more displays.

Visiting the Museum

Planning a trip to the museum can be the ideal way for you to spend a vacation or take a road trip, no matter where you may be coming from. You can easily map out your direction and come on your bike from near or far. There are plenty of great hotels to choose from right in the area of the museum. There are also ample camping opportunities nearby if you prefer to stay in the great outdoors during your travels to the area. The museum does maintain different hours throughout the year related to what time of the year you may be coming. They close earlier in the winter months of December through March and stay open later the rest of the year, so you want to be sure you plan your trip according to their schedule.

Nearly everyone that has taken the time to visit the National Motorcycle Museum states that it is well worth the trip. It can give you the chance to see an amazing collection of bikes and learn more about the history of motorcycles through the years. Take the time to start planning your visit out and map out your trip along with the necessary gear. You can take your time in getting there and stretch the trip out to a week or two so you can see even more of the country and enjoy every moment you get to spend on your motorcycle.
